REPRESENTATIVE PROJECT:
EMD SORENO
As part of our engagement at the EMD Serono facility in Billerica, Massachusetts, RECON teamed up with The Construction Manager to specialized building envelope consulting services, including services in support of full building commissioning. One significant aspect of our involvement was supporting the project’s pursuit of LEED Platinum Certification by collaborating closely with the Project Architect. We contributed to the development of building envelope cladding systems criteria, ensuring compliance with applicable Energy Conservation Code requirements and advancing overall sustainability goals.
Throughout the design phase, RECON participated in weekly meetings to review and resolve complex detail areas, offering guidance on best practices and innovative solutions. Our team’s expertise in material selection, assembly detailing, and energy efficiency measures helped maintain alignment with both the school’s aesthetic vision and the stringent standards mandated by Code. By anticipating potential challenges early on, we enabled the Construction Manager and the broader project team to stay on track with the project’s budget and schedule.
During the construction phase, RECON reviewed and commented on construction phase submittals, oversaw critical testing procedures, performed construction observations, and issued Field Reports that documented progress, identified issues, and recommended corrective actions. Whenever complexities arose, we worked collaboratively with the Construction Manager and other stakeholders to deliver timely, effective solutions. By maintaining open lines of communication and consistently focusing on quality and sustainability, we helped ensure the EMD Serono facility in Billerica would meet LEED Platinum objectives and stand as a model of energy-efficient, high-performance building design.
